As boy’s basketball wraps up this season, multiple players managed to land spots on the KingCo 3A All-League Selections and dominate against their opponents. These awards acknowledge the hard work that the players put in throughout the season, having selections such as Most Valuable Player (MVP), Defensive Player, Coach, and Team Sportsmanship of the Year.

While waiting on the sidelines and preparing for the upcoming match, a high school girl scans the assembled athletes and can’t help but notice how few of them are girls like her. Although expected, it saddens her nonetheless. She wishes her very presence didn’t defy the expectations of society. She wishes society didn’t deem her sport too “masculine” for her participation.

However, martial arts are some of the oldest sports in the world, many dating back more than 2,000 years. Liberty junior Kalli Tran has found her passion in such a sport, specifically taekwondo, in which she has been competing for the past five years.
