A Plead for Mercy

Caitlyn Mckinzie, Editorial Board

Imagine waking up in the morning. You roll over, and the clock is far, far past your normal, early-morning wake-up time. It’s Thanksgiving break, after all! You stretch, scroll on your phone for a little while, and there’s a little voice in the back of your head that says you have work to do. But one quick, panicked look through Canvas shows…nothing. A blissful “Nothing for now” message under your To-Do List.

Is there anything better than a stress-free break from school? Whether it’s Thanksgiving, winter, or spring break, who can complain about extra sleep? About a few days free from the stress of schoolwork? It’s a blessing, to say the least.

I’m hoping none of my teachers assign homework, and I’m sure you are too. Be thankful in advance for those who play a movie on your last day and send you off with nothing but the thoughts of a delicious Thanksgiving dinner. Don’t take these teachers for granted! They’re as familiar with working over break as we are, so maybe they’ll send just a bit of mercy our way before slamming us with more work between now and winter break.

To all the wonderful teachers who contribute to this lack of stress, I, and likely every other student you have, thank you. Have as wonderful of a break as you’re hopefully gifting your homework-free students.
