Boys Golf advances to Districts

With only two freshmen, four sophomores, and eight juniors on the team this year, Liberty boys golf team is fighting its way to districts.
“We are a pretty young team this year, so we have struggled a bit,” coach John Kinsley said.
Despite having such a young group, the team will progress onto districts on May 13 and 14 and possibly State on May 21 and 22.
“Last year, we had some really good seniors. Losing them made us face a lot of difficulties as a team this year,” sophomore Parker Nolan said.
Last year there were four seniors on the team, and this year there are none. The team finished the season 2-7.
“Having no seniors can be hard; we are more inexperienced this year compared to last,” Kinsley said. “But we do have some strong players.”

The players progressing onto districts are junior Jack Hultquist, sophomore Parker Nolan, junior Chase McAllister, junior Michael Hatfield, junior Mason Moger, and freshman Riley Marshall. Even though being a smaller team may be hard at times, there are definitely some benefits.
“This is the most fun season I’ve had since I’ve been at Liberty,” Nolan said. “We really had fun as a team this year because everybody knew each other. We all get along and we’re all happy. There isn’t any negativity on the team. We are always looking for positives even during the harder times we had to face this season.”
