Listening to the same songs over and over again can get pretty boring, so here are some songs that you can add to your quarantine playlist to spice it up!

If you like pop music…

1)”Find an Island” by BENEE- This is a catchy song that will be stuck in your head for hours after listening to it.  “Find an Island” is about distancing yourself from someone you love when you are fighting with them.

2)”Successful” by Ariana Grande- Listening to this song will immediately give you a burst of confidence and cheer you up. “Successful” is an empowering song about people celebrating their individual success and feeling good about themselves.

3)”Painkiller” by Ruel- The mixture of Ruel’s raw vocals with a peppy rhythm created by an electric guitar makes “Painkiller” a vivacious song.

If you like indie music…

1) “Highroad” by Sir Woman- This song falls under the category of “indie rock.” The song has a very laid-back feel to it that makes the song relaxing to listen to. Sir Woman chooses to keep the song raw by including an easygoing rhythm, simple drumbeat, and soothing vocals that reveal her soulful side.

2) “The Look” by Metronomy- Metronomy’s mellow vocals help to place this song in the indie pop category, but the use of a synthesizer, electric bass guitar, and dramatic drum beat give this song a slight 80s feel.

3)”Lucy” by Still Woozy ft. Odie- This single released in 2018 incorporates a balanced mix of acoustic and electric instruments that make this song relaxing but vibrant. The funky beat, catchy use of cymbals, and groovy electric guitar give this indie pop song a colorful and lively vibe.

If you like hip-hop music…

1) “Ultralight Beam” by Kanye West- “Ultralight Beam” features a gospel choir that gives this hip-hop piece a soulful element. Kanye uses this song to express his struggles with his faith.

2) “Hey Ma” by Chance the Rapper, Lili K, and Peter CottonTale- “Hey Ma” is from Chance’s first album, 10 Day, and he has said that it is his favorite song off of the album. It is an ode to all the influential women that have shaped his life, including his mom, aunts, and grandmother.

3) “Pursuit of Happiness (Nightmare)” by Kid Cudi, MGMT, and Ratatat- This well-known song by Kid Cudi is about the dangers of using substances to achieve happiness. While the song sounds like a happy party song based on the beat, instruments, and key that the song is in, the lyrics reveal the melancholy mood of the song.

If you’re feeling nostalgic…

1) “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye- This song from 2011 is a song that most of us grew up listening to. This song will never escape me because I’ve heard it thousands and thousands of times, but it still brings back memories of childhood.

2) “Forget You” by Ceelo Green- “Forget You” gives listeners a cathartic feeling because of how upbeat and entertaining Ceelo Green makes this song, despite it being about a previous lover leaving him.

3) “Empire State of Mind” by Jay-Z ft. Alicia Keys- This song is a timeless classic. Alicia Keys’ powerful voice makes the chorus simply unforgettable.

If you’re in the mood for slow songs…

1) “Pink Matter” by Frank Ocean- Frank Ocean never disappoints when it comes to slow songs. They are all heartfelt, full of meaning, and slow down time as you are listening to them.

2) “Stay” by Rihanna and Mikky Ekko- Rihanna’s stripped down vocals make this ballad a simplistic, but impressive piece to listen to. Rihanna’s passion and sentiment shine through her lyrics.

3) “Butterfly” by Umi- Umi’s effortlessly soothing vocals on Butterfly will ease you into a state of tranquility.
