Finding a family through cheer bonding

Rachel Matteson, News Editor

To the Liberty cheerleaders,

As the Fall sports season ends and marks the halfway point in our cheer program, I’d like to take time to reflect and express my thankfulness for the experiences we’ve had up to this point. My favorite of all of them has to be UCA Cheer Camp, our very first team bonding event.

Even after I’ve retired from being an LHS cheerleader and have moved on to college, I will always remember sitting in a circle with all of you, a piece of yarn wrapped around our wrists. I will remember the goals that we set, the compliments we gave each other, and the connection that I felt.

Cheer camp brings out the best in all of you by encouraging all of you to work hard. Never before have I seen everyone learn the routine material so quickly and execute it so cleanly. And while we’ve had our ups and downs at camp, we still did our best to learn the routine for the final day competition. With our hard work, we took 3rd place, an award I will be forever proud of.

For these experiences, I thank the UCA Cheer Camp for bringing us together and inspiring us to work hard. I thank the UCA cheerleaders for providing us with the best team bonding events. And finally, to my fellow cheerleaders, I thank you for providing me with the team I always wanted to be a part of.
