5, 6, 7, 8, who do we appreciate? …Coach Jen!

What do math equations and dance counts have in common? Numbers, but more supremely, Coach Jen.

While it might not seem like it, it takes a lot to be a drill team coach. At times, as a team, the team is restless, unable to stop talking between counts and asking questions that have already been answered. But Coach Jen stepped up to take the challenge; she took us under her care, restoring the team after an irregular COVID-19 drill season to what it was once before.

Her patience with the team has been remarkable. I didn’t understand the extent of her patience until she had to oversee a group of 30 or so senior boys for Bod Squad. Awaiting this moment since freshman year, the senior guys were rowdy and excited as usual, and Coach Jen was right there to whip them into shape.

Not only is she incredibly patient, but she also wants the best for all of us and pushes us to grow. She gives us constructive criticism because she believes in our potential and wants us to be the best versions of ourselves we can be. Not many adults are willing to hear what a group of teenage girls have to say, but without fail, she never shuts down an idea without listening to it first and always has the team’s best interest at heart.

From teaching to coaching, she puts in hard work, whether we see it or not. I don’t know how she does it, but there isn’t anyone who can do it better.
