Mirabelle Williams: The Real-Life Barbie, with a plot twist

Eleanor Briggs, Staff Writer

Junior Mirabelle Williams is the closest you can get to a real-life Barbie. Not only does she look the part, but Williams also has more than just her blonde hair. Despite looking the part of your stereotypical blonde, there is more under that head of hair than one might expect. William’s uncanny aptitude for learning has brought her to greatly further her capabilities and skills.

Beginning when she was four, Junior Mirabelle Williams began taking Mandarin lessons to improve her speaking, reading and writing skills. She continued taking classes until she was 12, and by that time she was fully fluent.

Williams spent two summers in Taiwan at the ages of 8 and 13, which had a significant impact on her life. During her time there, she became fluent in Mandarin and currently maintains the ability to both speak and read the language.

“In Taiwan they go to school year-round, so I would go to school in Washington during the normal school year and Taiwan in the summer,” Williams said.

Her favorite memory from her summers in Taiwan was when school was let out due to an incoming typhoon.

“We called it Typhoon Day, and we all thought it was the greatest thing in the history of time,” Williams said.

During her stay in Taiwan, Mirabelle fully immersed herself in the traditions and culture of the country. She actively participated in traditional Chinese performances and visited museums to deepen her understanding of Taiwanese culture.

Mirabelle’s experiences in Taiwan left her with a lasting love for travel and a profound appreciation for different cultures. She spends her summers exploring various countries, having already visited 15 nations and has plans to visit many more.
