Fall Sports Recap

Despite the numerous challenges and cancellations posed by less-than-ideal air quality, all seven fall sports continued to compete in the postseason, with many athletes moving on to district and state competitions.
CROSS COUNTRY
Cross Country raced their way from KingCo to the district competition, and many notable athletes qualified for state. Led by senior captains Ben Archer and Kaya Hill, these exceptional runners kept a steady pace and finished their season strong.
“Everyone put in a high level of effort this year, and there was a lot of unity amongst the team,” Archer said. “We all worked hard and pushed each other more than we ever have before.”

BOYS GOLF
Boys golf hit it out of the park, making it far in KingCo, advancing to districts, and having some incredible individuals qualify for state. With senior Jack Adams as captain, these guys truly putted their stuff going into the postseason.
“Players were improving, so there wasn’t a lot of separation between the first and tenth ranked players on the team,” coach Jon Kinsley said. “We had a variety of kids contributing to our overall team score, which was really good to see.”

GIRLS SOCCER
Girls soccer rolled into the postseason, scoring third place in KingCo. Captains Rachelle Stewart (12), Lillian Meeks (11), and Chloe Smith (11) led these athletes with vigor despite smoke-related challenges.
“The smoke really changed everything this year,” coach Ryan Johnson said, “but whatever adversity these girls face, they rise up and do well.”

BOYS TENNIS
For their postseason endeavors, these kings of the court took on KingCo! With senior captains Morgan Ringwood and Bauer Hanson, the boys tennis team aced this season, especially when it came to developing a community amongst the team.
“The team always encourages each other,” coach Carola Dopps said. “Even when there is a loss, they shake it off and have fun with it anyway.”

GIRLS SWIM AND DIVE
Diving into the postseason, the girls swim and dive team had many individuals qualify for state. With senior captains Samantha Klein, Andie Moon, Keaton Canaday, Keira Pham, and Charlotte Ury leading the team, these swimmers floated to the top of the competition.
“The team knocked out a really fast time during the 400 freestyle relay,” coach Kris Daughters said. “The state time is so fast that I didn’t even think we were going to qualify. It was exciting; the girls all started screaming when they realized.”
– Took 17 athletes to KingCo and finished 4th
– Took 9 athletes to districts

– Keaton Canaday (12): 200 freestyle [placed 10th]
– Savanna Taylor (12): 100 freestyle [placed 9th] and 100 backstroke [placed 15th]
– Annabelle James (9): adaptive 50 freestyle and adaptive 50 backstroke [placed 3rd in both]
– Keaton Canaday (12), Anastacia Mettlin (12), Andie Moon (12), and Keira Pham (12): 200 freestyle relay [placed 14th]
– Keaton Canaday (12), Keira Pham (12), Savanna Taylor (12), and Alex James (11): 400 freestyle relay [placed 7th]
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Girls volleyball truly served this season, taking their skills to the KingCo competition. Led by captains Naomi Hancock (12) and Aimee Brester (11), these athletes set a path for victory while keeping their head in the game.
“People are putting renewed focus and determination into the game,” Hancock said. “The past few weeks have been exceptional for us. We’ve really started to play as a team.”

FOOTBALL
With captains Bryce Anderson, Garrison Hanses, Nathan Dehnert, Jaxson Thoresen, and Rohne Klein leading the team, football tackled the playoffs. These athletes excelled on the field, gaining motivation from the fans that cheered them on every step of the way.
“When we scored the touchdown against Lake Washington, it was nice to see the crowd excited,” Anderson said. “We could feel the energy on the field, and the momentum it gave us helped us win the game.”
