Wrestlers take on new mindset for season

The wrestling team is sending four athletes to state. These athletes are Jacob Holm, Juan Flores, Brendan Nguyen, and Jakob DaSilva. Each of these athletes place in the top five of their weight class at districts.
Those four athletes know that practicing is a big part of how this year’s team planned to push themselves further into the postseason.
“You are not only letting yourself down by not coming to practice, but your whole team is counting on you to get better each day so we can get further into the postseason,” senior Ethan Le said.
Being present at practice was emphasized by not only the team, but the coaches as well.
“Coach Noel said at the start of the year if you guys want to place at state we will help you get there but you have to be at practice” coach Darren Tremblay said. “How far you want to go is on you.”
This focus on being at practice is helping to build a strong foundation to an even stronger future for the team as the new wrestlers are working to develop skills and a team dynamic.
“The new wrestlers provide an insight into next year’s wrestling because seeing what they brought to the table and their potential and how we can unlock that is great,” senior Joseph Jarmen said. “They are always joking around and bringing more energy to practice which is great because some of the older wrestlers are more serious.”
The team is looking forward to seeing what their postseason brings and the joy each win brings to the wrestlers.
“There are always those that you expect to move on that usually do, but there are also a few guys that peak at the right time that you might not have expected to make it and that’s exciting,” Tremblay said. “We feel like we can make a run to get in the top 10 at state as a team and that would mean the world to our guys.”
The team looks forward to success in the near and far future as they look ahead to state, and the matches in the coming years.
