Soccer shoots for State title but settles with League win

The mens soccer team fell short of their goal to win the State Championship game, although they put in a strong effort.

The team this year was led by senior captains Colton Ronk, Jacob Muttart and junior captain Ryan Graham. The captains came up with the motto “Bring This Home,” which meant bring the State Championship trophy to Liberty.

On the road to State, the team faced Mt. Si in the KingCo Championship game. The team secured the league title for the second time in a row with a 2-0 win over the Wildcats.

Later on, the Patriots had a rematch against Mt. Si to determine who would advance on in the District competition and get even closer to bringing home the State Championship title.

“We fought hard throughout the whole game, but they scored in the last few minutes of the game and we didn’t have a chance to tie the game and send it into overtime,” Graham said.

The team lost to Mt. Si 1-0 and did not move on to Districts.

The team had won two games in a row starting with a 1-0 win over Mercer Island on Tuesday, May 6, then a 1-0 win over Bellevue on Friday, May 9. Graham described these games as must-win games so that the team could have more confidence going into the KingCo competition next year.
