Valentine’s Day: Let’s love love

Charlotte Ury, Editorial Board

Less money than Christmas, less family than Thanksgiving, and more fun than Saint Patrick’s Day: Valentine’s Day is a combination of everything that makes other holidays great without any of the downsides.

Sure, it might be a little corporate. Yes, it can be a little bit of pressure for those in a relationship (and a sad reminder for those who aren’t in one but want to be). But I’d argue that if you feel stressed about Valentine’s Day or think it’s only for couples, it means you’ve lost the ~true~ meaning of this holiday.

Valentine’s Day, at its heart, is about love, whether that be romantic, platonic or even self.

While it’s true that Saint Valentine is the patron saint of lovers, he’s also the patron saint of epileptics and beekeepers, so take his name with a grain of salt.

As a society, we have expanded past the need of celebrating just romantic love. Take Valentine’s Day to watch your favorite TV show for self-love, or celebrate Galentine’s day by giving your friends a nice card.

There are no rules for Valentine’s Day, just celebrating love. Enjoy the beautiful pinkish-red color palette and sink into the addictive candy hearts. The day is just an excuse to tell people you love them, eat candy, and make fun of the terrible cards you see in grocery aisles. What could be better than that?
