What’s good: “Hello!” in the hallway

Allison Rafert, Opinion Editor

You’re walking down the hallway, your mind immersed in the AP Calc quiz you just took and the Honors Physics exam you have next class. It’s an understatement to say you’re overwhelmed with your schoolwork. All at once, your eyes meet with someone walking in the opposite direction, 20 feet down the hall. The instant they spot you, a smile spreads across their face, and they articulate a cheerful “hello!” as you pass by. You don’t even know this student well, only having had history together in 8th grade, but this simple interaction means so much to you and brightens your day immensely. Soon, the stress vacates your body, and you find yourself spreading the friendly greeting to other passing students. We all know and appreciate these compassionate people who go out of their way to make someone’s day, so let’s all take the few seconds it requires to say hi in the hallway!
