Mackenna Briggs (12) won the state athlete of the week award from the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) last week, receiving the award for her performance in the state 2A swimming competition, in which she was a double champion.  She set a new 2A state meet record in the 100 butterfly event, completing the race in 55.65 seconds, beating the old record of 56.29.  Additionally, she was the state champion in the 50 freestyle event, and was the lead off for the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, helping to break another state record for the 400 freestyle by 3.5 seconds.  “She has been a fantastic leader for us this year, and dedicates a huge portion of her life to getting better at her sport,” girls swim coach Kris Daughters said.  “I’m going to miss her a lot next year, but I think the University of San Diego is gaining a very cool person, a good leader, and a phenomenal athlete.”
