It’s that time of year again!
Teacher appreciation week is right around the corner, and ASB is doing their best to acknowledge teachers in a way that makes them feel recognized and appreciated for all that they do.
”The purpose of door decorating is to represent who teachers are through the decorations we put up on their classroom doors. We include their interests, add a quote, and try to showcase who they are in our decorations,” sophomore class officer David Coughlan said.
ASB students love to make all individuals at Liberty feel seen, and door decorating is one of the ways ASB represents the staff at Liberty.
”It’s a great way to appreciate teachers by showing them how much they mean to us,” senior class officer Andrew Kang said.
Though teacher appreciation door decorating is commonly confused with the door decorating competition that took place in winter, ASB students say there are key differences between the two.
”Door decorating in the winter is the teachers decorating their own doors as a competition. Door decorating before teacher appreciation week is done fully by ASB students,” Coughlan said.
From choosing a teacher to the final door reveal, a lot goes on behind the scenes for ASB students.
”In ASB, there is a day where we choose what teachers we want. Then, you can choose to interview them or leave their decorations a surprise. You end up figuring out a lot of things about them, then make a plan, and then decorate their doors right before teacher appreciation week,” Coughlan said.
Some ASB students prefer to let the teacher they choose know what will be on their door, while others enjoy surprising their teacher with the final product.
”I love if the teachers don’t know so it feels like I am surprising them when they figure it out,” Kang said.
Through the weeks leading up to teacher appreciation week, students work hard to ensure quality decorations are seen on every teacher’s door here at Liberty. They enjoy the process, and speak of their excitement for the upcoming week.
”I like making connections with the teachers I choose and finding out more about them during this time of the year,” Coughlan said.
Overall, ASB students believe the reward of the finished product is well worth the hard work put into the project. They believe teachers deserve to feel acknowledged and appreciated for what they do, and are excited for what is to come.
”I find door decorating rewarding because it gives me the opportunity to show teachers how much I care about them and also helps me say thank you for all they have done for us year-round,” freshman officer Sena Manjali said.
