Exciting, innovative, complex! What do all these words have in common? They’re all ways Liberty’s ASB has described the upcoming spring fling, Liberty’s Shipwrecked!
“Liberty’s Shipwrecked will have a beachy and tropical theme,” Treasurer Kaeven Sahota said.
Once they anchored down on a theme, Liberty’s ASB put up decor to match it, including waves, tropical flowers, a shipwreck wall, and more. Backpack tag will also be making a return.
“The students implement ideas generated from the student body, and do their best to create a week of fun,” ASB Advisor Michelle Munson said. “The spirit days are designed with the students and staff in mind, and we work to keep the days simple and easy for people to do.”
Liberty cruised through this week with spirit days such as Lifeguard day, Under the Sea day, Tropical day, Teen Beach day, and on Friday, Dad’s Day Off.
“We don’t typically have a theme for our spring spirit week, but the executive board officers wanted to work towards one this year,” Munson said. “The theme was chosen based off of a discussion in class, taking into consideration the feedback from the student body.”
This spring fling has been a primarily student-driven effort.
“All of the planning and execution is student driven with guidance from me, all of my officers are doing an excellent job of working together to bring this week to Liberty,” Munson said.
This student driven organization of the dance and spirit week by Liberty’s ASB was headed by Sahota.
“We started having a spring fling dance last year because of Nicolas Ruiz and Jack Warren who decided to put the work in and bring it back,” Sahota said. “This year I decided to continue it.”
In bringing Liberty’s Shipwrecked to life, Sahota emailed vendors such as ShareTea and a talented DJ.
“There have been issues with certain vendors taking a long time to respond, and there’s also the daunting task of putting everything together,” Sahota said.
Sahota says that the spring dance is going to be more casual than other dances in the past, such as Homecoming.
“The planned theme is sundresses and that kind of vibe,” Sophomore President Taylor Bligh said.
Liberty has had spring dances in the past, but that came to an end roughly a decade ago due to low student participation. ASB hopes you show up and show out on Friday, April 4 from 6:30-9:00 PM!
