Antoinette Fox- Intro to Engineering, Material Science, and Future Ready:
Why did you choose to teach these subjects? I’m coming from a math background. Alongside that, I really wanted to teach something that was more hands-on and leaned into students’ creative side.
What’s your favorite part about Liberty so far? The community is amazing, especially just how kind and caring all the people here are. Everyone is just so helpful.
Do you have any pets? I have two dogs, a fish and a leopard gecko. My dogs range from three to nine years old, and we got my leopard gecko three years ago for my son when he was four.
Michelle Reed- 9th/10th English:
Why did you choose to teach this subject? Ever since first grade, I’ve always loved reading and writing. My dream job was to become an author and illustrator. After that, English had always been my best subject. I loved, and still love, digging really deep into things, analyzing them, and discussing them with people. I also do a lot of creative writing for fun, so it just felt natural.
What is your favorite book series? I am a big fan of A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin. I love fantasy books.
Where did you teach before? How are you adjusting? I taught for three years in Massachusetts. I just moved in July, and I like it pretty well. I especially like the summer weather–even with the fires, the smoke, and the craziness. The weather is so much better here than in Massachusetts, which is crazy hot in the summer, so I was actually able to go outside every day here. I also have a friend who lives in the city as well, so it’s been nice.
Tanner Froeber- Algebra 1/2:
Why did you choose to teach this subject? In high school I knew I wanted to teach, partly because I wanted to coach, and math was always my best subject. I just really liked it, so I paired those two things together and found my career as a math teacher.
What’s your favorite part about Liberty so far? Seeing all my basketball players around the hallway has been really cool. I’ve been coaching JV boy’s basketball here for three seasons now, so that’s been really fun. The kids have been really good so far, even though we’re only a month in. There’s a lot more interactions between people compared to my time at Issaquah. I love the connections here.
How long would you survive a zombie apocalypse? What’s your strategy for surviving? I think I could maybe survive a few days. My strategy would probably be to just hide from everyone and find a place to shelter in. Maybe I’d go out to the woods and try to survive there.
Nicholas Etheredge – General Chemistry and Physics:
Why did you choose to teach this subject? It fits with my background. I was a mechanical engineer for my first career, so I spent about eight years in the private sector doing engineering work, and I always liked math and science. When I got my teaching degree, it made the most sense to stick in that lane, so I got my certification to teach physics and then general science.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I’m weirdly good at guessing the year that movies came out. Usually I can get within one or two years for most movies in the last 20 years.
How long would you survive a zombie apocalypse? What’s your strategy for surviving?
As someone who’s seen the movie Zombieland, I know that cardio is important. I would say my cardio is ok, so I could probably outrun the zombies for a couple days. I’d last more than some but less than others. My strategy would be to get into as remote an environment as possible, so that I can see all 360 degrees around me. You don’t want to ever be surprised by a zombie.
Olivia Heinrich – LRC-1 English
What is your favorite part about Liberty so far?
I love that the teachers have all been so supportive and welcoming. My students are great. I’m transitioning from the elementary school level, so working in the high school level has been a fun and new experience for me.
How long would you survive a zombie apocalypse? What’s your strategy for surviving?
I would survive all of it. My husband is super prepared. We have everything we need, food, a bunker, all that stuff. If it wasn’t for my husband, though, I’d probably die because it’s really thanks to him that I’m prepared.
What is your favorite book or movie series?
Harry Potter all the way. Huge nerd about the series. I love the third movie and the seventh book the most.
