Q&A With the New Staff at Liberty
October 21, 2022
A new school year brings new faces, so what better time to meet them all than now? It only takes a couple of questions and answers to get to know them!
Ms. Sims
Q: What made you decide to work at Liberty?
A: “I’ve always worked in the education field and I saw this job pop up. It was close to my house and something different, so I decided to try it out.”
Q: If Liberty had a different mascot, what do you think it should be?
A: “Maybe a panther. Patriots are sort of different, but an animal would be nice.”
Ms. Gillingham
Q: What made you decide to work at Liberty?
A: “I’ve worked at Tahoma for 28 years, but I get jealous when we go to the store and everyone’s like “Mr. Gillingham!” It’s always lovely when kids are happy to see you, but I just never got to experience that before.”
Q: If Liberty had a different mascot, what do you think it should be?
A: “The flamingo. Last summer, Mr. Brownson and his wife went to a Flamingle in Florida. They got to hang out with them and I thought that was really cute.”
Ms. Mateo
Q: What made you decide to work at Liberty?
A: “My niece went here, and my sister and I have always heard really good things about this school. I thought it would be a good career change to come into this district and school.”
Q: If Liberty had a different mascot, what do you think it should be?
A: “Maybe an eagle?”
Ms. Orren
Q: What made you decide to work at Liberty?
A: “My husband has been here for a long time and I’ve heard lots of good things about Liberty from him. I also subbed here last year and I really enjoyed it.
Q: If Liberty had a different mascot, what do you think it should be?
A: “I think we’re patriots, so Patriots fit. Maybe something along the same lines, like warriors.”
Ms. Emerson
Q: What made you decide to work at Liberty?
A: “I’ve been part of this community for many, many years. My kids went here and it’s just a great place to be.”
Q: If Liberty had a different mascot, what do you think it should be?
A: “I don’t know. I can’t think of anything off the top of my head.”
Alkire
Q: What made you decide to work at Liberty?
A: My university, Western Governors University, found this opportunity for me. They found a school nearby where I live and then they had set up a kind of initial interview with Mr. Level.
Q: If Liberty had a different mascot, what do you think it should be?
A: Some kind of animal. Lions are always cool.
Newton
Q: What made you decide to work at Liberty?
A: I was offered the position of long-term substitute for Mrs. Foote for the first semester, since I worked for Liberty more often than other ISD schools last year, and thought it was too good an opportunity to pass up.
Q: If Liberty had a different mascot, what do you think it should be?
A: I think the Liberty mascot is fitting for our school name.
Atwater
Q: What made you decide to work at Liberty?
A: I really wanted to do something with people and somewhere where I can make a positive impact.
Q: If Liberty had a different mascot, what do you think it should be?
A: I would want it to be “The Commanders,” because I always think of football.
Kersey
Q: What made you decide to work at Liberty?
A: I’m doing my graduate program for counseling at Seattle University, and the opportunity just fell into my lap. My supervisor, Ms. Kenny has been mentoring me so far.
Q: If Liberty had a different mascot, what do you think it should be?
A: Anything that aligns with those colors, I love the blue and white, since that’s what my middle school had.
Schwenk
Q: What made you decide to work at Liberty?
A: I recently worked at Issaquah High School, but I wanted to come to Liberty because it is closer to home for me. I know a lot of the students here and I have two children who go here.
Q: If Liberty had a different mascot, what do you think it should be?
A: Something new and original. The current mascot is too close to the mascot of an NFL football team.
