Liberty’s DECA program heads to Nationals

After sending a record number of students to the DECA State competition and achieving victory in four different categories, Liberty will be contributing several DECA members to compete at the national level in Atlanta, Georgia. Twenty-one students qualified for state this year, which broke the previous record of fifteen.

At State, Liberty was successful in a broad range of categories. The success that had been exclusive to written papers has expanded to include role play as well, which helped secure a place at Nationals. DECA students will compete against thousands of fellow marketing enthusiasts from all over America and its international territories.

Liberty’s qualified DECA students leave for Atlanta on May 2. Out of their week-long stay, one day will be spent competing. Out of each competition event, two people will emerge as winners and receive scholarships from businesses that have made investments in the program.

Senior DECA member Keegan Kylstra is optimistic about how Liberty will perform at Nationals. “I’ve seen progress all three times that I’ve gone to State,” he said. “The program has definitely improved in the years since I first joined.”
