This array of four counters (black and gray paddles in center) detect cosmic rays—highly energetic subatomic particles from outer space. Each flash of blue light on the data card (right) indicates a detected event. The experiment is operated by Jeremy Stroming (12) with advising from science teacher Mark Buchli.
