Capturing Joy: Thank You Photography

When I was little, I was obsessed with my dad’s camera. Stealing the shiny silver Sony Cyber-Shot from its rightful place, I would galavant around the house shooting pictures. My mom doing laundry. Click! Our dying houseplant. Click! My little sister having a tantrum. Click!

Most of my pictures came out blurry, but I didn’t care. These pictures were my treasures.

However, as the years rolled by, I strayed away from our family camera for a seemingly more glamorous option: my phone. Photography became less of a treasure to me and more an activity I took for granted.

When I signed up to take Photography 1 this semester, I didn’t expect to feel the same joy I felt holding the camera as a little girl. I also didn’t expect to wrestle with trees to get the perfect shot, capture various different rubber ducks, or use Pinocchio’s face as a prop.

I look forward to every ingenious assignment Mr. Hood has created, every Wednesday’s featured photo, and every time I get to venture out with my classmates to capture pieces of Liberty.

I am not as trigger-happy as I once was, but photographs remain treasures to me. Thank you Photography!
